Tempeh Avocado Pita Thursday, June 25th, 2009

food 2009 090

At school we make a sandwich called the DLT (dulse lettuce tomato) and it’s always new students favorite recipe.  This is similar. I fried some dulse (which gives a salty, bacon-like taste to any dish) and tempeh, schmeared
the inside of the pita with mustard and avocado then topped everything off with some nice organic spring salad mix.

I’m showing my Trader Joe’s LOVE!  If you’re a CA to Austin transplant like myself, you probably miss Trader Joe’s just as much as I do.  These crackers are some of my favorite.  I’ve heard there are similar crackers at grocery stores around town but they’re SO much more expensive than my Trader Joes Everything Crackers. While I was home over the weekend I picked up some snacks for the plane ride back to Austin.  You’ll probably see a couple of  TJ’s items sneaking into my posts.  I bet these will be gone by the end of the week.  They’re so munch-able and go well with sandwiches (better than chips IMO).

Sambhar Lentil Stew Friday, August 31st, 2007

The past week or so I’ve decided to eat out of my pantry. It will save me some money and clear some room for future items :)

As I was rummaging for a late night snack I was thrilled to discovered this jar of stew. I haven’t heated it up yet but am excited to try it out. It’s trader joes brand of Indian Sambhar Lentil Stew. Potatoes, lentils, okra, carrots, tomatoes- this stew is full of tasty ingredients. I’ll be taking a crack at it this weekend and I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Have a great Friday!

Greens on St Patty's Day Sunday, March 18th, 2007

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

We went out last night to an Irish pub. We sang, had a few drinks and watched some bag pipers play! It seemed like such a festive night that I don’t feel a need to do it all again tonight ;)

My mini “green” celebration today consisted of a mixed greens salad with green bell peppers (I stopped by Trader Joe’s and picked it up there).

I hope everyone has a safe and fun St. Patty’s!
